What Nails To Use For Plywood Flooring?

Choosing the right nails is key to a secure and long-lasting plywood floor. For most plywood flooring applications, we recommend using ring shank nails. These nails have a series of rings along the shank, offering superior holding power compared to smooth shank nails.

The ideal nail size for plywood flooring is 2 inches (50.8 mm) in length. This length ensures proper penetration into the subfloor while avoiding damage to underlying structures or utilities. For optimal results, use 6d ring shank nails, which have a diameter of 0.0720 inches (1.83 mm). These sizes are recommended for a strong grip and minimal damage to the plywood surface.

When working with thicker plywood or in high-traffic areas, consider using 8d ring shank nails, which are 2.5 inches (63.5 mm) long with a diameter of 0.0915 inches (2.32 mm).
